Why Your AI Content Sounds Like Everyone Else (And How to Fix It) (Psst, gift inside✨)

Why Your AI Content Doesn't Sound Like You — And What to Do About It

Hey Reader

Let me guess.

You've tried using AI to help with your content. And it worked — technically. The words came out fine. The structure was fine. The grammar was definitely fine.

But something was off.

It didn't sound like you. It sounded like... a very competent stranger wrote it. Professional. Polished. And completely devoid of the thing that makes your content yours.

So, you edited it. Heavily. And by the time you were done, you wondered why you used AI at all.

Here's what's actually happening — and it has nothing to do with AI being bad at writing.

The Real Problem

When most people sit down to use AI for content, they brief it on the topic.

"Write me a LinkedIn post about overcoming imposter syndrome."

"Give me five newsletter ideas for entrepreneurs."

"Help me write an Instagram caption for this photo."

Topic. Topic. Topic.

But they never brief the AI on themselves.

And that's the missing step.

AI is an extraordinarily powerful writing partner. But it's a writing partner that knows nothing about you until you tell it.

It doesn't know that you write in short punchy sentences. It doesn't know you open with a question. It doesn't know you always bring everything back to faith and purpose. It doesn't know you use parentheses like you're whispering a secret to your best friend.

So, it defaults to average. Competent. Generic.

And generic feels wrong — because it IS wrong. For you.

What Voice DNA Actually Is

Your Voice DNA is the specific, documented profile of what makes your writing unmistakably yours.

Not vague. Not "I write in a warm, conversational tone" (that describes half the internet). Specific.

Things like:

Your core tone — the emotional quality your writing consistently creates in the reader

Your personality markers — the 5 traits that come through in everything you write

Your signature phrases — the words and expressions that show up again and again

Your relational stance — whether you write as a peer, a guide, a friend, or an authority

What your writing always does — and just as importantly, what it never does

When you have all of that documented in one place, everything changes.

Because now you can hand that profile to any AI tool and say: "This is who I am as a writer. Now help me create content from that place."

And it does.

Why This Matters More Than Any Prompt

I know what you might be thinking. "Can't I just find a better prompt?"

Here's the truth: prompts are powerful. But prompts without a Voice DNA foundation are like GPS directions without a starting address.

The AI is trying to get you somewhere — it just doesn't know where you're starting from.

Your Voice DNA is the starting address.

Once the AI knows your voice at that level of specificity, your content stops sounding like everyone else's. It stops needing three rounds of heavy editing.

It starts sounding like the version of you that shows up on your best content days — even on the days when you have 45 minutes and a lukewarm cup of coffee.

That's the real value here. Consistency. Your voice, reliably, even when you're tired.

How to Create Your Voice DNA

The good news: you don't have to figure out your Voice DNA from scratch on your own.

This is one of the things AI does remarkably well — analyzing your existing writing and identifying the patterns you've probably never consciously noticed.

Here's the high-level process:

Step 1: Gather your writing samples. Pull 5–10 pieces from wherever you write — newsletters, LinkedIn posts, Instagram captions, blog posts, even heartfelt emails. Mix of formats, mix of topics. Don't just grab your best work — your voice lives in your everyday writing too.

Step 2: Feed them to an AI tool with the right prompts. This is where most people get it wrong — they ask too broadly. The prompts matter. You want to ask the AI to analyze specific dimensions of your voice: tone, personality, language patterns, relational style, what's distinctive and hard to replicate.

Step 3: Build your Voice DNA Profile. Turn the analysis into a usable one-page reference document — something you can paste into any AI conversation as a briefing before you start creating content.

Step 4: Put it to work immediately. Start every AI content session by sharing your Voice DNA Profile. Watch what happens to the output.

Ready to Do This Today?

I created a free resource that walks you through this entire process — step by step, using AI to do the analysis for you.

It's called the Your Voice DNA Starter Kit.

It includes: the exact prompts to feed into Claude or ChatGPT, a fill-in profile template, and three AI prompts you can use immediately once your profile is complete.

The whole thing takes about 20–30 minutes.
